General information only

The content of this site is patient education. It describes the parts a lip is made of, how a complaint is assigned to one of them, and what each route costs in time, recovery and risk. It is not a diagnosis, it is not a treatment recommendation for any individual, and it does not create a doctor-patient relationship.

No substitute for examination

How much of your own lip is tissue and how much is position, whether a muscle is doing the work, how long the space above your lip actually is, and whether a lip that looks thin is thin at all are findings that can only be established by examining you and measuring. Reading this site cannot substitute for that, and a plan made from a website alone is a plan made without information.

Results vary and are not guaranteed

Individual results differ, and no physician and no website can guarantee an outcome. Added volume can be dissolved and does not change length or position; an operation that removes skin or tissue changes the mouth and cannot be undone; and neither changes a bite. Any statement that appears to promise more than that should be treated with suspicion wherever you encounter it.

If something is wrong after treatment

If you have had treatment to the lips and develop severe or increasing pain, blanching or mottled skin, a change in vision, rapidly increasing swelling, spreading redness, fever, a wound that opens, or a lip that is numb or not moving, contact the treating team or seek emergency care immediately rather than waiting for a routine appointment.
